Cara mangajar bahasa Inggris kepada anak
banyak cara yang dilakukan, tetapi yang terbaik untuk anak-anak adalah active learning through playing yaitu dengan kombinasi sound-music movement. dalam bentuk permainan, hal itu bisa mengambil bermacam-macam bentuk, mulai dari jalan-jalan seolah-olah anak berkeliling dunia, bermain peran drama, puzzle, menyanyi, menulis, menggambar, mewarnai, bercerita dan mengeksplorasi buku, dll.
Kegiatan kegiatan tersebut selain meningkatkan kemampuan fisik, mental dan emosi yang terpenting si anak tidak merasakan pelajaran bahasa inggris itu sebagai beban, tetapi sesuatu yang menyenangkan.
nah untuk mendukung pernyataan diatas, berikut adalah hal hal yang perlu diperhatikan dalambelajar bahasa inggris atau bahasa asing untuk anak ;
1. seseorang dapat mengingat sesuatu yang didengar, dirasa dan dilihat, karena di dalam tubuhnya terdapat bermilyar milyar sel otak. proses terjadinya ingatan ini dimulai sejak otak menangkap rangsangan yang penting dari lingkungan. kemudian diterima, disimpan, dan diingat kembali.
2. secara umum, perbaikan memori dapat dilakukan dengan dua cara. cara pertama, mengadakan latihan otak ( brain training ). kedua, meingkatkan kemampuan perhatian dan konsentrasi. ini dapat dilakukan dalam bentuk rajin membaca, mempelajari situasi di mana berada, latihan secara teratur dan sistemasi.
3. salah satu latihan tersebut kita ambil dari kata LUPA. L untuk latihan, U untuk ulangan, P untuk perhatian dan untuk asosiasi. kita harus melatih atau mengulang-ulang mengenai suatu hal. kemudian memberi lebih banyak perhatian pada suatu hal. perhatianlah yang sebenarnya merupakan pangkal dasar untuk tidak mudah lupa.
4. Lupa mempunyapi ikatan dengan emosi. kalau ada suatu kejadian yang mampu melibatkan emosi seseorang, ingatan itu akan lama tersimpan. karena itu, melatih anak anak berbahasa inggris dengan mengajak mereka jalan jalan berkeliling dunia akan menimbulkan pengalaman atau kenangan yang menyenangkan, sehingga akan lama tersimpan di memori otak mereka.
5. Lewat asosiasi, misalnya untuk mengingat sebuah HURUF A, A is for amber the angry ant theanimal park. pertama tama tama kita akan ulang nama HURUF itu, sehigga terekam di otak. lalu kita asosiasikan dengan mengingat nama seseorang yang diawali huruf A, sifatnya, kemiripannya, bertemunya diamana?
6. usahan agar dalam melatih bahasa inggris kepada anak hendaknya jangan dipaksakan agar tidak muncul penolakan karena emosi negatif. libatkan emosi senang, sehigga anak memiliki kesan mendalam yang sulit dilupakan oleh otaknya. Akhirnya tanpa disuruh pun akan senantiasa berlatih mengulang, memberi perhatian dan berasosiasi sendiri tentang bahasa inggris.
nah jika hal hal diatas sudah dirasa cukup, maka kita praktekan satu persatu tentunya dibarengi kesabaran adalah hal pokok juga kita perhatikan, seperti pada point ke 6 agar semuanya lancar tanpa ada paksaan sehigga timbul kesan senang dan ingin mengulang tanpa disuruh atau dipaksakan.

Artikel ini Prattama share untuk temen-temen sesama mahasiswa yang ingin mengetahui cara yang efektif untuk mengajar bahasa inggris, khususnya mahasiswa jurusan Bahasa Inggris yang ingin melaksanakan Praktek Pengalaman Lapangan (PPL) di sekolah. Tentunya sebagai calon guru yang belum pernah masuk ke lingkunga pendidikan formal, memerlukan banyak informasi dan tips seputar cara efektif mengajar bahasa inggris.
Berikut Cara Efektif Mengajar Bahasa Inggris :
Persiapan
- Kita harus mempelajari kurikulum dan silabus pelajaran bahasa inggris, dan catat tujuan pembelajaran yang tercantum dalam silabus bahasa inggris tersebut.
- Setiap kali akan mengajar, buat sebuah rencana pembelajaran.
- Kemudian buat Rencana Pelaksanaan Pembelajaran Secara Sistematis.
- Persiapkan juga media belajar, akan lebih menarik disertai gambar.
Kegiatan Dalam Kelas
- Berilah pemanasan setiap mengawali pelajaran, seperti menggunakan game yang berhubungan dengan materi agar menumbuhkan motivasi dalam belajar.
- Usahakan siswa mengerjakan tugas secara berkelompok ataupun teman sebangku. Ini dimasudkan agar mengurangi tingkat stress anak-anak.
- Berilah instruksi yang jelas dan sederhana.
- Kurangi berbicara dan menjelaskan terlalu banyak. Berilah tugas ataupun mengajak siswa untuk mengucapkan bahasa inggris bersama-sama.
- Monitor seluruh kegiatan siswa, jika ada siswa yang terlihat kesulitan agar bisa dibantu.
- Berilah kesimpulan di akhir pertemuan.

I really don't know if these are new to you guys but since I was brainstorming some ice breaker ideas, I decided to share them.
1. Put some sentences on the board that will help them get to know each other, not more than five. For example, with Basic students: What’s your name? / nickname? / occupation?
Put them standing up in two rows facing each other. They’ll have to talk to the person in front of them ask and answering the questions. When you clap your hands, they all move to their left (the ss who are first and last in the row, then change rows.) and continue doing the same thing with the new partner. Feedback with whole class at the end.

Using Games
'Many experienced textbook and methodology manuals writers have argued that games are not just time-filling activities but have a great educational value. W. R. Lee holds that most language games make learners use the language instead of thinking about learning the correct forms (1979:2). He also says that games should be treated as central not peripheral to the foreign language teaching programme. A similar opinion is expressed by Richard-Amato, who believes games to be fun but warns against overlooking their pedagogical value, particularly in foreign language teaching. There are many advantages of using games. "Games can lower anxiety, thus making the acquisition of input more likely" (Richard-Amato 1988:147). They are highly motivating and entertaining, and they can give shy students more opportunity to express their opinions and feelings (Hansen 1994:118). They also enable learners to acquire new experiences within a foreign language which are not always possible during a typical lesson. Furthermore, to quote Richard-Amato, they, "add diversion to the regular classroom activities," break the ice, "[but also] they are used to introduce new ideas" (1988:147). In the easy, relaxed atmosphere which is created by using games, students remember things faster and better (Wierus and Wierus 1994:218). S. M. Silvers says many teachers are enthusiastic about using games as "a teaching device," yet they often perceive games as mere time-fillers, "a break from the monotony of drilling" or frivolous activities. He also claims that many teachers often overlook the fact that in a relaxed atmosphere, real learning takes place, and students use the language they have been exposed to and have practised earlier (1982:29). Further support comes from Zdybiewska, who believes games to be a good way of practising language, for they provide a model of what learners will use the language for in real life in the future (1994:6).'
'Games encourage, entertain, teach, and promote fluency. If not for any of these reasons, they should be used just because they help students see beauty in a foreign language and not just problems that at times seem overwhelming.'
When to Use Games
'Games are often used as short warm-up activities or when there is some time left at the end of a lesson. Yet, as Lee observes, a game "should not be regarded as a marginal activity filling in odd moments when the teacher and class have nothing better to do" (1979:3). Games ought to be at the heart of teaching foreign languages. Rixon suggests that games be used at all stages of the lesson, provided that they are suitable and carefully chosen.'
'Games also lend themselves well to revision exercises helping learners recall material in a pleasant, entertaining way. All authors referred to in this article agree that even if games resulted only in noise and entertained students, they are still worth paying attention to and implementing in the classroom since they motivate learners, promote communicative competence, and generate fluency.'

'In conclusion, learning vocabulary through games is one effective and interesting way that can be applied in any classrooms. Why Use Games in Class Time?
* Games are fun and children like to play them. Through games children experiment, discover, and interact with their environment. (Lewis, 1999)
* Games add variation to a lesson and increase motivation by providing a plausible incentive to use the target language. For many children between four and twelve years old, especially the youngest, language learning will not be the key motivational factor. Games can provide this stimulus. (Lewis, 1999)
* The game context makes the foreign language immediately useful to the children. It brings the target language to life. (Lewis, 1999)
* The game makes the reasons for speaking plausible even to reluctant children. (Lewis, 1999)

* A game should involve "friendly" competition.
* A game should keep all of the students involved and interested.
* A game should encourage students to focus on the use of language rather than on the language itself.
* A game should give students a chance to learn, practice, or review specific language material.
